Together with my fellow Councillors from the City Infrastructure Standing Committee, I conducted a site visit to Milea 1 following feedback from residents regarding several issues affecting the neighbourhood. The visit also provided us with the opportunity to inspect the maintenance works carried ...out by the Council’s contractors and engage directly with the residents.

During the inspection, we identified several matters that require attention. Some of the Spider Plants along the roadside had not been properly maintained, resulting in overgrown vegetation that has become a potential hiding place for snakes, raising safety concerns among residents.

We also observed that certain tall plants at road junctions had grown excessively, obstructing motorists’ line of sight when making turns. This poses a safety risk to both drivers and pedestrians and should be addressed promptly.

Another concern raised was the obstruction of back lane footpaths by plants, pots and other personal belongings placed by some residents. These access ways are important, particularly during emergencies, as they may be needed by the Fire and Rescue Department. Keeping them clear is a shared responsibility for the safety of everyone in the neighbourhood.

In addition, we noted cases of livestock being reared within the residential area, which have resulted in unpleasant odours and hygiene issues affecting nearby residents. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the relevant Council by-laws.

I would like to thank the residents of Milea 1 for taking the time to share their concerns with us. Regular site visits are essential to better understand the issues on the ground and to ensure that our public spaces remain safe, clean and well maintained. By working together, the Council and the community can continue to build a cleaner, safer and more liveable Miri for everyone.

I had the honour of representing YB Datuk Sebastian Ting at the Food Fair 2026, organised by Persatuan Serebrum Palsi Miri (Miri Cerebral Palsy Association), affectionately known as Wisherland Miri.

This event holds a special place in my heart. I am truly grateful to have had the ...opportunity to learn more about cerebral palsy since 2020, when the Association’s founding President, the late Katherine, approached Datuk Sebastian seeking assistance in establishing their centre at Piasau Camp.

I still remember her unwavering passion and determination. Together with a group of dedicated parents, family members and volunteers who shared the same vision, she worked tirelessly to create a safe and supportive environment for children with cerebral palsy and their families. Her dream was not only to provide access to therapy and rehabilitation, but also to build a community where parents could find hope, encouragement and support from one another.

Early intervention is vital for children with cerebral palsy. The earlier a child is identified and receives the appropriate therapy, the greater the opportunity to improve their quality of life and reach their fullest potential. Wisherland Miri has become an invaluable platform that helps make this possible while offering comfort and strength to families throughout their journey.

Running a centre like this is never easy. It requires continuous funding to support qualified therapists, dedicated staff, specialised equipment and daily operating costs. Yet despite these challenges, I have witnessed this centre grow from humble beginnings into one of the finest community-based facilities of its kind in Miri, providing quality services at an affordable cost to families who need them most.

I would like to pay tribute to the late Katherine and everyone who has carried on her legacy with the same dedication and compassion. Your selfless commitment has touched countless lives and given hope to many families.

I also encourage everyone to support Wisherland Miri, whether by attending its fundraising events, making a donation, or simply helping to raise awareness about cerebral palsy. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps ensure that more children can receive the care and opportunities they deserve.

Together, let us continue building a caring and inclusive community where every child is given the opportunity to thrive.

Congratulations to President Eunice and her team for successfully organised the event.

Happy Sarawak Day to all fellow Sarawakians! 💛🖤❤️

Today, as we commemorate 22 July 1963, the day Sarawak attained self-governance, we honour the vision, courage and sacrifices of those who laid the foundation for the Sarawak we proudly call home today.

Sarawak Day is a ...reminder of our unique history, our rich cultural diversity, and the spirit of unity that has always been our greatest strength. Together, we have continued to build a peaceful, progressive and inclusive Sarawak where people of all races and religions live in harmony.

As we celebrate this special occasion, let us also remember and honour the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem (Tok Nan), whose vision ensured that this important chapter of our history would never be forgotten. On 23 April 2016, he announced that 22 July would be observed as Sarawak Day, and on 10 May 2016, it was officially gazetted as an annual public holiday for Sarawak. His leadership strengthened our appreciation of Sarawak’s unique history and identity.

Let us continue to work hand in hand to safeguard our rights, preserve our heritage, and build a brighter future for the generations to come.

Selamat Hari Sarawak ke-63. May our beloved Sarawak continue to prosper, remain united, and move forward with confidence and pride.

Segulai Sejalai. ❤️💛🖤

I had the honour of representing YB Datuk Sebastian Ting at the Charter Installation and Fundraising Luncheon of the Lions Club of Miri North City, held at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.

The occasion was made even more special with the presence of the Guest of Honour, Lion Mark ...S. Lyon, International President of Lions Clubs International, who travelled to Miri for this meaningful event. I was deeply honoured to receive the Lions International pin from the International President himself and to be invited to join Lions Clubs International, a global service organisation with more than 1.4 million members. I sincerely appreciate this recognition and look forward to working together with the Lions fraternity in serving our community.

My heartfelt congratulations to Charter President Michelle, the Board of Directors and all Charter Members on this important milestone. Thank you for your willingness to serve and for taking on the responsibility of making a positive difference in the lives of others. I have no doubt that, under your leadership, the club will continue to grow and contribute meaningfully to the Miri community.

Wishing the Lions Club of Miri North City every success in the years ahead. Together, let us continue building a more caring, compassionate and united community.

Completed the first official assignment of July 2026 with the launch of the Miri Smart City Command Centre, officiated by YAB Premier Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, this morning at Miri City Hall.

It has been a great ...honour to be part of this journey. From the initial proof of concept, through planning and implementation, to the development of a fully operational Smart City Command Centre. Being involved from the early discussions, construction phase, and finally witnessing its official launch is truly a meaningful milestone.

Many residents may not realise that several smart city initiatives are already part of their daily lives. For example, the Miri Smart City App, which includes features such as Miri Cares, allows residents to report issues and engage more effectively with the Council. At the same time, Smart Poles have been installed at major parks throughout Miri. Besides providing emergency assistance through SOS features that can help save lives, these smart poles also enhance public safety and security through surveillance and monitoring capabilities.

The Smart City Command Centre will integrate information from various smart city systems into a single platform, enabling faster response, better coordination among agencies, data-driven decision-making, and more efficient delivery of public services.

This is just the beginning of Miri’s smart city journey. As technology continues to evolve, we remain committed to leveraging innovation to improve public safety, enhance municipal services, strengthen environmental sustainability, and ultimately create a greener, smarter, and more liveable city for everyone.

My sincere appreciation goes to YAB Premier Sarawak for his visionary leadership in driving Sarawak’s digital transformation, as well as to YB Mayor Adam Yii, fellow councillors, City Hall staff, our technology partners, and everyone who contributed to making this project a reality.

Together, we continue building Miri – Green, Smart and the Most Liveable International Resort City.

What smart features would you like to see in Miri? I’d love to hear your ideas. Personally, I hope AI can help monitor grass cutting, drain cleanliness, potholes, street lighting and other issues to enable faster action by the Council.
