Our SUPP Miri (Piasau) Youth Branch kicked off our Q1 2026 outing with an unforgettable journey to the beautiful highlands of Bario, Sarawak.

This trip was extra special as it was our first flight experience since the change of ownership to AirBorneo. Flying into Bario is truly an ...adventure and the Twin Otter aircraft carries only 9 passengers at a time, making every journey feel personal and exciting.

For me, it was also a nostalgic moment. My last Twin Otter flight was about 20 years ago to Lawas, and stepping onboard again brought back the same feeling of excitement mixed with a little nervousness. But the moment the plane lifted above the lush forests and mountains of Sarawak, it reminded me how truly beautiful our homeland is.

This was also my first visit to Bario, and it turned out to be a meaningful experience. We had the opportunity to meet the highland community, make new friends, and learn about the rich culture of the Kelabit Highlands.

We visited the Bario Asal Longhouse. It was the first long house in Bario where all the stories of the highlanders started. Our homestay host Aunty Anne has welcomed us with the authentic highland cuisine, simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious.

As a youth branch, we felt it was important to start our outings by exploring Sarawak itself. By experiencing our own culture and heritage firsthand, we can better appreciate it and play our part in promoting Borneo’s unique culture, people, and landscapes to the outside world.

Sarawak is truly blessed with incredible places like Bario, where nature, culture, and community come together in the most beautiful way.

Here are some Day 1 photos from the journey, a memories that I will definitely look back on every year.

Bario… definitely not the last visit.

YB Datuk Sebastian 2026 Chinese New Year Open House and Majlis Berbuka Puasa at Miri Dewan Suarah on the 21st Feb 2026.

A truly joyous and meaningful occasion where brothers and sisters from all walks of life came together to celebrate Chinese New Year 2026 in a spirit of unity and ...harmony.

We also took the opportunity to hold a Majlis Berbuka Puasa with our Muslim brothers and sisters, sharing not only food but also friendship, understanding, and togetherness.

Moments like these remind us of the beautiful diversity of our community and the strong bonds that unite us. Grateful for the fellowship and the wonderful memories created that evening. 🎉🌙🧧

I would like to share an interesting reference regarding the proper hanging of the official portraits of our Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri and spouse, as well as the Prime Minister and the Premier of Sarawak.

For... Sarawak without Sultan, the protocol is clearly stated in Surat Pekeliling Am Bilangan 3 Tahun 2014 – Tatacara Penggantungan Potret Rasmi, issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on 21 February 2014.

According to the circular:

• The portraits of the Agong and Her Majesty must be placed at the first level (aras pertama).
• The portraits of TYT and spouse must be of the same frame size and positioned at the same level as the Agong.
• The portraits of the Prime Minister and the Premier/Chief Minister are to be placed at the second level (aras kedua).
• The distance between each frame should be 10cm (4 inches).
• The second level should be positioned 10cm (4 inches) below the first level.

As of now, I could not find any updated circular superseding the 2014 version, and therefore this remains the latest official reference. I have checked with Tuan Resident Miri and cross referencing with the document under Unit Protokol, Istiadat dan Pengurusan Acara Sarawak which using the same document.

For those interested, the circular can be accessed here:

This afternoon, I went to Jalan Tasik and Jalan Perkasa together with the Council engineer and a DID officer to inspect the unusually high water level in the drains, even though it is not the rainy season.

The contractor is currently carrying out drain cleaning works starting from Jalan ...Perkasa using heavy machinery, and we hope the works can be completed smoothly towards Jalan Tasik. During the inspection, we observed that the water level in the residential drain is almost at the same level as the river behind the houses. The DID officer informed us that the river was recently cleaned and cannot be further deepened at this stage.

Given this situation, I have requested DID to conduct a study on possible measures to lower the water level in the residential drains while preventing river water from flowing back into the drainage system.

After that, I proceeded to Lutong Baru to inspect the issue of low-capacity earth drains and blockages caused by utility cables. I have suggested to the maintenance engineer to look into deepening the earth drain and to engage with the utility company to relocate or reposition the cables, as they are currently trapping debris and affecting water flow.

We will continue working closely with the relevant agencies to improve the drainage system and reduce potential flood risks for residents.

Have you guys tried the Yellow Pedal Duck at Bulatan Park lake? 🐥🐣

Kudos to the Miri City Council Tourism and Business Event Development Standing Committee for bringing in another exciting activity and facility to Bulatan Park. Congratulations to William and the team for successfully... setting everything up and adding more joy and vibrancy to the Miri community.

It’s especially nostalgic because we used to have pedal boats at the same lake about 20 years ago. Seeing this back again really brings back fond childhood memories. So glad to see the park continuing to evolve while keeping those happy moments alive for the next generation. 🌳✨

SUPP Miri Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee distributed oranges to the community yesterday morning at Market Pujut Corner and Long Meng Ke Zhan Café 🍊🙂.

Thank you to all fellow comrades who took part and helped out. Beyond sharing festive cheer, we also took the opportunity to ...engage with the public, listen to their views, and gather feedback, all of which are important in helping us improve our services and better serve the community.
